Ankai recently successfully tested a driverless bus at the Central International Airport in Japan in partnership with the Japan Bureau of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The Ankai completed its trial operations of a 2km round trip between the international bus lounge and the main parking lot, running at 25km/h and using cutting edge technologies like laser radar, millimetre wave radar, camera and GPS technology to ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians. The Ankai was able to identify and react to unexpected situations and successfully interact with intersections, traffic lights and other vehicles without issue.
Ankai recently exported GS series double decker buses with full electric drivetrain’s for operation in the cities of Milan and Florence in Italy. These double deckers have 70 seats, an all-aluminium body structure and a range of 250 kilometres. The benefits of electric buses for use in inner cities is not only emissions-free operation but reduced noise and vibrations, resulting in a better experience for passengers. After a successful completion of the trails in Milan and Florence, Ankai electric buses will soon be operating in 14 Italian cities.
In December 2018, at an exhibition held in Hefei, China, Ankai displayed an 8.5m Bus with the latest in Hydrogen fuel cell technology. This is Ankai’s third generation fuel cell bus. Ankai has big plans to develop its fuel cell technology, with an initial goal of 5000 units in operation by 2020, 50,000 by 2025, and 100,000 by 2030, reflecting Ankai’s commitment to developing alternative fuel technologies.

In 2011, 3,000 Ankai buses totalling RMB 1 billion (NZD 205 million) were exported to Saudi Arabia, which is the largest oversea order in the China bus manufacturing industry.
In 2012, Ankai GS series double-decker’s with open tops were used at the time of the London Olympics, becoming the first batch of Made-in-China double-deckers to be used in Britain.
In 2014, 1,100 Ankai Buses were exported to Algeria, which was ranked the largest export order for the first half of that year.
In April of 2017, Ankai secured a contract to supply Saudi Arabia with 600 A9 buses (worth a total of 48.4 million USD). They are being operated by HAFIL Transport Company L.L.C.
In 2017, Ankai Exported to Burma a total of 500 gas-powered buses, totalling 200 million RMB (41 million NZD) in sales.
From 2012 onwards, Ankai produce and supply a yearly bulk order of new buses to the General Reserve Department of PLA of China. These buses are produced in strict accordance with military standards, meeting the requirements of the PLA.
